3.2 Ecological system services

Their socioeconomic benefits and integration into optimal land use models

In order to assess the socioeconomic benefits of ecological system services, GLOWA JR plans to operate via two complementary approaches: (a) partially evaluate the benefits accruing to the community from a flow services (e.g., grazing, eco-tourism), and (b) evaluate the costs of maintaining a given level of ecological services, provided by the natural resource stock (the ecological system). Thus, in the latter approach, variations in, e.g., the stock of seeds will be used as a first-order indicator for changes in ecological systems that will result from change in the natural stocks.
